Iranians gather in front of Sweden embassy over desecration of Quran

Tehran, IRNA - A group of protestors has gathered in front of the Swedish embassy in Tehran to slam the permission issued by the Swedish authorities for insulting to and provocative desecration of the Holy Quran.

According to an IRNA reporter on Friday, the gathering has turned into a sit-in.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, in a letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres and in response to the insult to the Holy Qur'an said that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemned the issuance of a permit by the Swedish authorities for the offensive and provocative act of desecrating the Holy Qur'an for the second time in the last month.

He added that Iran also strongly warns that the continuation of this act under the guise of freedom of speech is an open insult to all Muslims, provoking different communities and with the aim of anti-Islamism and promoting extremism.

Meanwhile, the Swedish ambassador in Tehran was summoned by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani, and the Islamic Republic's strong protest was conveyed to him over the sacrilege of the Holy Quran in the European country.
